A Message from Dylan Gutierrez, alumnus, The Music Center’s Spotlight program (Ballet, 2006)
I was raised and trained as a ballet dancer right here in Los Angeles. As a teenager, I developed my skills by participating in The Music Center’s Spotlight training program – a formative experience in my dance career.
Today, I am a proud member of The Joffrey Ballet and was so excited to have the chance to return to the stage at The Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion this spring to perform as Romeo in Romeo & Juliet. While I was in Los Angeles for the engagement, I had the opportunity to speak with the 2018 Spotlight semifinalists in ballet about my journey. Talking with these aspiring young dancers reminded me of my time in Spotlight and how important The Music Center’s work is in nurturing and encouraging young talent.
This month, The Music Center has embarked on a 30 Days of Giving campaign to continue reaching young artists – but it needs your help before the month ends.
The training that Spotlight provides to youth in Southern California is nationally acclaimed and unmatched: emphasizing preparation, courage, critical thinking and perseverance.
Participating in workshops and seminars with leading professional artists pushed me to strive and grow as a ballet dancer.
I know firsthand how empowering The Music Center’s investment in young people can be, so I hope you’ll join me in supporting The Music Center’s Spotlight program before the month ends.
