DIY Sugar Cookies Inspired by Miami City Ballet’s all-new Nutcracker

This weekend, The Music Center welcomes the world premiere of Miami City Ballet’s all-new George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker®. The holiday classic, with Balanchine’s iconic choreography, features all-new sets and costumes by Cuban-American artist/designer power couple Isabel and Ruben Toledo.

Local Los Angeles baker Alana Jones-Mann was inspired by the Toledo’s colorful take on the classic holiday tradition. Scroll down to find out how you can make your own sugary creations to celebrate the (Nutcracker) season!

If You Give a (Nutcracker) Mouse a Cookie:

Decorate your very own Nutcracker mouse sugar cookie or set off to create an entire mice army complete with The Mouse King. Use the video below for inspiration and be sure to pick up piping bags, cookie cutters, food color and “royal” icing at the store.

Mother Ginger Sweets:

Create a cookie straight out of the Land of the Sweets! Mother Ginger is synonymous with The Nutcracker and she truly comes to life in this tasty version. Alana was clearly inspired by Isabel Toledo’s costume designs.

Attend the world premiere of the new George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker® by Miami City Ballet.

December 7 – 10 at The Music Center in Downtown Los Angeles.
