This Week @MusicCenterLA

It’s decidedly Spring now! And oh what a wonderful string of events we have coming up this week!

We’re very excited to present the Ukrainian Ethno-Punk group DakhaBrakha this Saturday at World City. As usual there are two FREE showtimes, and all you need to do is register here. And maybe catch a snippet here just to get excited!

LA Opera presents its final two opportunities to see The Marriage of Figaro this Thursday and Sunday. Mozart’s classic is the conclusion of the Figaro Trilogy. Need a refresher on which one this is? Stop us if you’ve heard this one

Center Theatre Group continues its delightful run of Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella at the Ahmanson. Enjoy this lovely trailer for the show. And as for dining options when you come, consider this very special children’s menu from Kendall’s Brasserie and Bar!

LA Phil has a very full week of classical programming aptly and gently welcoming Spring:

  • Tomorrow night Concerto Köln presents a dynamic program featuring music by some of the Baroque period’s best composers as performed by this celebrated period-instrument ensemble based out of Cologne, Germany.
  • Friday through Sunday presents Vivaldi & Handel featuring Spring and Summer from Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons as well as excerpts from Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto. Enjoy this clip!
  • Hélène Grimaud in Recital on Tuesday encompasses expressive possibilities of water music through a sampling of colorful, decorative, atmospheric, and poetic selections, mostly from the 20th century.

Speaking of water… This weekend LA Master Chorale presents The Water Passion by Tan Dun. Don’t let the title fool you into thinking the sounds of water might be an allusion as there’s indeed water incorporated into this presentation! Enjoy this rehearsal video via LAMC’s Facebook page here.

On Sunday the REDCAT presents a matinee and evening performance of L.A. Bassoons and then on Tuesday catch in limbo: Robert Henke, Ulrich Krieger and Amy Knoles presenting an evening of far-flung musical exploration.
